• Stubborn bad breath: Bacteria in your mouth cause a cavity. The bacteria may also make your breath smell bad. If you notice stubborn bad breath, it may be a sign of a cavity. 
• Swollen gums: Some cavities occur near the gum line, and in these cases, you may notice symptoms on the gum. Check for swollen or bleeding gums, as they may be a warning sign of a cavity or of gum disease.
